About the Program
Ever since the launch of our website, The Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program has received requests from prospective students who either do not live in the Seattle area or who wish to take some of the program's training in a more compressed time period. In order to accommodate these students, we created the Two Week Summer Intensive Program. The program has become extremely popular, attracting students from as far away as Australia, Brazil, Columbia, Dubai, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Romania, Scotland, Sweden, Turkey and United Arab Emirates as well as from all over the US and Canada
The 2024 two-week program will be held at our music lab at the Seattle Film Institute in Seattle's Interbay neighborhood from Monday August 12th through Friday August 23rd.

The 2024 Summer Intensive will be from Monday August 12th to Friday August 23rd.
The program will take place in the PNWFS music lab at the Seattle Film Institute in Seattle's Interbay neighborhood.

Program Tuition
When you register on this site for the summer intensive program, you can pay with a credit card via PayPal.
Tuition for the 2024 Summer Intensive Program in Seattle (does not include accommodations, transportation, or other incidentals) is as follows:
Program Tuition:
Early Bird Registration - Register and pay before April 30th: $1,500
Regular Registration - Register and pay between May 1st to June 30th: $1,650
Late Registration - Register and pay between July 1st to July 12th: $1,800
NOTE: Tuition payment is due at time of registration.
Refund and Cancellation Policy
All course cancellations are subject to a non-refundable cancellation fee of $50.00 and a refund schedule.
Review carefully before registering. All requests for refunds must be made in writing, via e-mail, and sent to: hummie@pnwfilmmusic.com
Summer Intensive Program Refund and Cancellation Policies:
After deducting a $50.00 cancellation fee (or $150 for the Super Early Bird Rate), refunds are available on the following schedule:

Requests received by June 17th, 100%.

Requests received by June 24th, 70%.

Requests received by July 1st, 50%.

Thereafter, no refund can be issued.
COVID Protocols
The Seattle Film Institute is currently a mask optional campus. However, attendees of the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program Summer Intensive may be asked to wear masks for certain classes/lectures depending on the instructor or based on any new CDC guidance. We expect all attendees to be respectful and courteous to each other and our instructors and to mask up if asked.
We highly recommend that attendees have a few rapid tests on hand and take one before the first meeting time of the intensive. We will not be regulating this at all and are trusting our attendees to be cautious and considerate while COVID is still a risk.
If an attendee comes down with COVID and can no longer attend the Summer Intensive please contact Hummie Mann by e-mail, hummie@pnwfilmmusic.com to discuss options.

Learn about songwriting and what makes a song successful in a film with Sue Ennis, co-writer for the band Heart and a national trustee of the Recording Academy.
Tuesday
Spotting &Themes
Spot a short film and create timing notes for a scene. Learn about how to decide on the overall tone, how to budget for musicians, and what goes into writing an effective theme.
Wednesday
DAW Basics
Learn about Digital Audio Workstations, or DAWs, what they are used for, and the functional differences between the major programs used in the industry with game audio guru and Where the Water Tastes Like Wine composer Ryan Ike.
Thursday
Video Game Music
Learn about the aspects of creating music and audio for video games from Forza composer Lance Hayes.
Friday
Networking & Hollywood Life
Hear from program graduate and accomplished Hollywood orchestrator Jarryd Elias as he talks about how to network and what it's really like working in the film industry in Hollywood.

Learn about how notation software works, what it is used for, and the functional differences of the major programs being used in the industry with professional copyist Jacob Winkler.

Copying & Music Prep
Learn about the formatting standards used in the industry when creating sheet music for live sessions as well as the role of a copyist and proofing team. Learn how to tape and bind a tabloid sized conductor score.
